You have acknowledged that Labour “didn't get it right” in its response to Gaza and apologised for the hurt this caused. As Prime Minister, you now have an opportunity to break from the failures of the past, to demonstrate a clear change in approach and to take real action to ensure Britain is not complicit in Israel’s genocide.

I am therefore asking you to take three urgent steps within your first 100 days in office:

1. End support for illegal Israeli settlements

Introduce a comprehensive ban on trade with illegal Israeli settlements and prevent UK government bodies and public institutions from supporting companies and organisations based in or materially supporting settlement activity.

The International Court of Justice's July 2024 Advisory Opinion made clear that states must not enter into economic or trade dealings concerning the Occupied Palestinian Territory that help maintain Israel's unlawful presence. The UK should act on this obligation.

2. Impose a full bilateral arms embargo on Israel

Implement an immediate and comprehensive bilateral arms embargo on Israel, including ending the current exemption for UK-made components for the F-35 programme.

The UK should not continue to authorise military exports or provide military support where there is a serious risk that they could contribute to violations of international humanitarian law.

3. Reverse the proscription of Palestine Action

Reverse the proscription of Palestine Action and restore the right to protest.

Thousands of people have been arrested under the Terrorism Act for expressing support for Palestine Action, including elderly protesters holding placards. Criminalising expressions of support under terrorism legislation raises profound questions about proportionality and freedom of expression.

You have said that Labour got its approach to Gaza wrong and that you are sorry. Your first 100 days provide an opportunity to demonstrate that this apology represents a genuine change in policy rather than a mere illusion.

I therefore urge you to take these three steps and ensure that the UK's approach to Palestine is grounded in international law, human rights and justice.
