Take action: Let’s host #PicnicsForPalestine this summer - 8th June 2023

As warmer weather finally arrives, families and friends across the UK are planning picnics with their loved ones in gardens and parks.

Yet for Palestinians, the pleasure of hosting a picnic is denied by Israel. As part of Israel’s ongoing Nakba (catastrophe) against Palestinians, Israeli restrictions on freedom of movement make it almost impossible to even enjoy picnics.

This summer let’s host #PicnicsForPalestine and raise awareness of Israel’s 75-year oppression of Palestinians.

Did you know that in the occupied West Bank, the Palestinian right to meet family and friends is severely restricted by Israel’s Apartheid Wall and over 700 checkpoints and roadblocks?

In addition, apartheid Israeli policies make it difficult and distressing for Palestinian family and friends who live only a few kilometres away to see each other.

In the face of this injustice, FOA is asking individuals to host #PicnicsForPalestine this summer. This can be a low-key event in your garden with close friends and family, or a community picnic at your local park.

#PicnicsForPalestine raise awareness of Israel’s denial of the simple act of having a picnic with friends and family. Your arranging a picnic serves as an important reminder of the daily injustices suffered by Palestinians.

We hope you join hundreds of others also hosting #PicnicsForPalestine this summer.

Register your interest and FOA will send you everything you need to make your picnic special: Palestine flag bunting, Palestine flags, an interactive quiz to learn more about Palestine, and educational literature including the popular Injustice Illustrated publication. If there’s anything else you need then don’t hesitate to get in touch.
Whatever form it takes, use this opportunity to talk about Palestine, tell stories about Palestine, share what you know and educate each other about the injustice taking place.

#PicnicsForPalestine are important for driving forward the movement for freedom, justice and equality for Palestinians.

And why not use your picnic as an excuse to enjoy delicious Palestinian food like hummus, falafel or knaffeh!
Hosting a picnic this summer is a simple action you can take to make a difference. Don’t forget to send us your photos or tag #PicnicsForPalestine on socials - we’d love to see how you get on!
