Gaza has been under Israeli siege by land, air and sea since 2007. This means that nothing can get in or out of Gaza without Israeli permission.
Food, water, medicine and fuel are all scarce. 70% of households in Gaza do not have adequate food.
As a result of Israel’s inhumane siege, over 80% of the population needs humanitarian aid.
Gaza is experiencing an electricity crisis. Many households only receive power for a few hours each day.
Israel has imposed an inhumane siege on Gaza since 2007. A siege is when an area is surrounded and cut off from essential supplies. This means that there are extremely tight Israeli restrictions on what can go in and out of Gaza, including aid.
As a direct result of the siege, food, water, medicine and fuel are all scarce. Over 80% of the population needs humanitarian aid.
Children are particularly badly affected. Up to 70% of children in Gaza suffer from PTSD.
Palestinians in Gaza are also subject to frequent brutal bombardments by Israel:
2008-2009: More than 1000 Palestinians in Gaza were killed over a 3-week period known as the Gaza Massacre
2012: Over 8 days, Israel killed 167 Palestinians in Gaza, including 4 children from one family in a single air strike
2014: Over 7 weeks, more than 2000 Palestinians in Gaza were killed and over 10,000 were wounded. 1000 children were left permanently disabled
2018-2019: Israeli forces unlawfully fired live ammunition at Palestinians who posed no imminent threat to life at the Great March of Return protests at the fence between Gaza and Israel
2021: 256 Palestinians in Gaza were killed by Israel, including 66 children. Israel targeted two residential buildings of the Abu al-Ouf and al-Kolaq families in Gaza, killing 30 family members including 11 children. Amnesty International has called for an investigation into Israel’s targeting of residential buildings
Gaza is experiencing a humanitarian crisis with a political solution: Israel’s siege of Gaza must end.
