Upcoming: Aqsa Week 2025 – Press Release
As we start the new year, Aqsa Week is fast approaching. Scheduled to take place in the same week as the Prophet Muhammad’s Night Journey (Isra wal Miraj) of 27 Rajab, this year AqsaWeek will take place from 24-31 January.
At a time when the Palestinian people are facing a genocide, Masjid Al-Aqsa serves as an important symbol of unity, heritage and resistance. Masjid Al-Aqsa is also threatened to unprecedented levels by a growing and increasingly vocal Israeli right-wing who call for its destruction.
Some of the events and activities taking place this year include:
Aqsa Week Kids: thousands of children across the world will take part in daily storytelling sessions and complete tailored worksheets.
Hundreds of masajid have already agreed to dedicate their khutba on 24 January to Al-Aqsa.
Aqsa Week Fajr Challenge: children will come to the masjid on 25 and 26 January for the fajr prayers, making a special duaa dedicated to Al-Aqsa.
“A Journey Beyond the Stars”: On 25 January, FOA will be holding a special event for women and children in Manchester, including a quiz and storytelling session.
“Children’s Art for Aqsa!”: On the same day, children in Leicester will take part in a creative day of arts and craft, producing a variety of pieces related to Al-Aqsa.
“Gaza – The Doorway to Al-Aqsa”: FOA will also hold an event on 25 January in Birmingham, followed by a three course dinner. It will explore how to take meaningful activism and the significance of current events in the region to Al-Aqsa.
Speaking in the lead up to Aqsa Week, Ismail Patel, Chair of Friends of Al-Aqsa, said, “Aqsa Week is an opportunity for Muslims around the world to educate themselves about the importance of Al-Aqsa to our shared heritage. For those of us outside Palestine, it is also an opportunity to raise awareness about Palestine and Masjid Al-Aqsa. Symbolically scheduled to coincide with the Prophet Muhammad Night Journey from Masjid al-Haram to Masjid Al-Aqsa, this is an opportunity to reinforce our devotion to Islam’s first qibla.”
Aqsa Week will take place from 24-31 January. Whether you are a member of the public, university student, organisation, parent, teacher or imam, you can find ways to get involved here: https://www.aqsaweek.org.uk/get-involved
